Wrap Around a Child in Foster Care THIS CHRISTMAS
" RIGHT NOW, ABOUT 200 CHILDREN in Spartanburg County are living in foster care. For every one of those kids, an entire world has fallen apart. It's enough to break anyone's heart, but what can we do? As a former foster parent and current foster care advocate in our community, I can tell you.
Licensed foster families are working hard to provide safe places for these children to rest and recover while their lives are in limbo, but their numbers are few, and even they have their limits. Becoming a parent by any means will turn your life completely upside-down, and
becoming a foster parent throws open the door to so many unknowns. Many of us cannot open our homes to a child in need right now, but we can wrap around those who do. PS I Love You Ministries is making it easier than ever for us to combine our time, energy, and resources to make the greatest impact.
The founders started by providing simple care bags out of their own garage for kids in foster care. Now, this nonprofit team runs a dedicated foster closet with over 2,000 visits per year. Kids typically enter foster care with no warning and few possessions, and PS I Love You Ministries gives free support to local foster families, providing them with clean, high-quality clothes, toys, books, and specialized supplies for children's unique needs. Christmas can be an especially difficult time for children in foster care. Some of these kids are missing their families and traditions at home, while others have never even known a happy Christmas. Providing gifts for these children around the holidays is a tangible and powerful way to show them that they are seen, loved, and valued.
PS I Love You Ministries prepares bright red Santa sacks for our local foster children every single year, personally packing and praying over every single one. They even collect wish lists from these children, giving sponsors the chance to grant specific Christmas wishes for individual children across Spartanburg County. Holiday donation drives bring in additional items like clothes, bedding, stuffed animals, toys, and crafts. This year's Christmas campaign, "A Baby Changes Everything," is starting right now. Inspired by the child behind the very first Christmas, PS I Love You Ministries is sharing the stories of foster families whose lives have been forever changed by children in our own community. You can be a part of changing their lives, too, when you support this organization through the holiday season.
Involve your children by taking them with you to shop for high-demand items like new toys, character blankets, basic toiletries, and socks. Leave items unwrapped, and deliver them to the Donation Center at 121 Metro Drive from 9 am to 3 pm on Mondays through Thursdays. If online shopping is easier for you, then visit PS I Love You Ministries' website for their curated Amazon Wish List, where you can find all their most needed items at any given time. Christmas began with one child who changed everything. This Christmas, maybe your family can help change everything for one child.
