In January of 2023, we started attending View Church, where Pastor Tyler Kirby often talked about foster care. My husband felt the call to foster before I did. God continued to work in my heart over the next year; in the spring of 2024, I felt the calling to foster care after a couple at church had shared about their foster care journey and how they went on to have biological children as well!
When we felt the calling to foster, we knew it was from the Lord. There was an indescribable peace surrounding that decision. Soon after, I reached out to one of our good family friends and a licensed foster family we knew. We went over to their house and talked to them for hours about foster care and their experience. After that conversation, we had continued peace that the Lord was truly in this call. Meanwhile, in October of 2024, I accepted a position at PS I Love You Ministries, whose mission is to support foster children and families. God truly knew I needed to be at a job where I would have flexibility but also have others around me that understand the foster care system.
It took us over a year and a half to get officially licensed. There were many bumps in the road, but once we got our first call in November 2025, it all made sense why it took so long to get licensed! Now, 6 months later, we see God's working in us and through our family daily. We have recently added another foster child to our home and it was truly all in God’s perfect timing!

The experience that I’ve had with vulnerable children and families has been nothing short of God’s hand in our story. We had our foster daughter for less than 6 months before her parents signed their rights away completely. We were able to go to her county and meet them. I will never forget that day and feeling the heaviness of her situation, yet feeling nothing but compassion for her biological mother and father in that moment. No one can prepare you for those moments of God’s grace. Yet, He continues to give us that same grace and compassion daily. As you go into the foster care community, remember this one thing: the biological parents are His kids too. We all make mistakes- it is important to show them Jesus and love their kids well while they are in your care!
If you are someone that is feeling the tug towards foster care, I would highly encourage you to reach out to a foster family that you may know or call PS I Love You Ministries. Any of our foster families on staff would be excited to talk through it with you! Another helpful resource is to listen to The Forgotten Podcast. It tells many different stories from all different perspectives of foster care! It really opened my eyes to the need early on in our calling to foster care.
If God is placing foster care on your heart, don’t ignore it-your yes could change a child’s life forever.
